We spent a day at "Jamestown Settlement," not far from the Jamestown national park. They had a replica of the Jamestown fort.
One area at Jamestown Settlement had some replica Powhatan dwellings. They had a rounded shape that helped to keep them from being knocked over by the wind. There was a fire area inside, but all of the cooking was done in a special area outside.
Powhatan tools made of bone, a dugout log canoe, braiding rope that was used in the construction of the dwellings, beating leather, and trying on some high-fashion Powhatan clothing.
There were fully functional replicas of three of the original boats that brought people and supplies from England to Jamestown: the Discovery, the Susan Constance, and the Godspeed. We were interested to see how small they were, especially the Discovery and the Godspeed.
Checking out different things to see on the Susan Constance, including sleeping quarters and cannons.
