Joanna and Caleb got to go up with Joel on one of his latest flights. 

They had a lot of fun.

Santorum Rally

We went to a Rick Santorum rally today!

Both Caleb and Joanna got his signature. Joel shook his hand and wished him well.

He posed with Joanna and friends for this cool picture. The more we learn about him and hear what he has to say, the more we like him. 

He's definitely not your run-of-the-mill politician. His almost 45-minute speech included quotes from Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and the Declaration of Independence -- as well as a few rather disturbing quotes from Barack Obama. (All extemporaneous with no notes, teleprompters or, as our kids confirm, non-words like "um....uh.") After the speech, he and his wife stayed and greeted everyone present who wanted to meet him.

A new hat

Joanna just finished her first crochet slouch hat.

 

She did a great job!

The kids got to pick 10 pieces of candy to keep.  Guess Joanna likes Reese's!

The kids got to make some baskets with our homeschool group.  They weren't too hard, but they had to work at it.  Thanks Mrs. S!!

Density

Here's a quick experiment Joanna did on the density of objects.

Joanna's findings:

The liquids in this cup are vegetable oil, water and syrup.  The objects are a cherry, a cork, an ice cube and a rock (which you can't really see - the rock is at the bottom of the syrup.) 

This experiment shows that objects and liquids that are less dense rise above the objects and liquids that are more dense.

1st day at camp!

Joanna and Caleb are both at camp this week.

Awana Awards Night

Kids had a great Awana year!  They all learned a lot of verses and finished their books. 

Happy Bday!

Joanna's 11! Joanna celebrated her birthday in MN at Uncle Andy & Aunt Clarice's house. They have a birthday hat that she got to wear for the day.

Her birthday started with a yummy breakfast in bed. I believe it was Ian & Caleb's idea. She also decorated her birthday cookie which I forgot was in the oven and OVERbaked. Tasted good, but it was a bit hard!


We made another birthday cookie cake when we got home. This one was not overcooked!

Blue

Continental Army Putt-Putt

As you can see from the pictures below, we've got the 18th century on the brain.
After visiting Yorktown, they did a little putt-putt but got distracted and had to load their "muskets"!

I bet you they're good shots too! (Dad was scared taking the picture!)

Joanna's Back

Joanna's back from camp. She had a great time. We got to see pictures throughout the week while she was gone and keep up with their different activities online. Some of the things she enjoyed were Bible quizzing, the daily treasure hunts, goofing off with the girls, chapel and I'm sure we'll hear more.

Joanna entered a drawing at our local homeschool convention for a whole bunch of drawing stuff and she won. It was very exciting to see that big box come in the mail.
