Density

Here's a quick experiment Joanna did on the density of objects.
Joanna's findings:
The liquids in this cup are vegetable oil, water and syrup.  The objects are a cherry, a cork, an ice cube and a rock (which you can't really see - the rock is at the bottom of the syrup.)
This experiment shows that objects and liquids that are less dense rise above the objects and liquids that are more dense.

Outdoor fun

We headed to a park with some friends and enjoyed the playground and sprinklers today!

Eliana is getting ready to join the other kids!

Karis loves the face stick.  She gets the sunscreen on nice and thick.

Karis really liked this huge dog that walked by.

An Old Letter

My grandma sent this to me recently.
It's a letter I wrote to her before I could even write my name.

Happy 60th to Grandfather!

Happy Birthday Dad!
Need any help with that?

Post camp catch-up

Joanna and Caleb had a great time at camp. The kids were all excited
to catch up when we picked them up today.

HOT!

This has been the summer to talk about the heat and setting records!  We've seen lots of pictures like this one.
The kids are at camp this week with no ac in their cabins and it sounds like the boys all got to sleep in the dining hall and the girls in the chapel with ac last night.   I'm thinking that they are enjoying their pool time this week!
With over 30 days of 100 plus degree weather so far, I'm wondering what August has in store for us.

1st day at camp!

Joanna and Caleb are both at camp this week.

Looks like they are going to have a great time!
Here they are with some friends - Caleb is on the far left and Joanna on the far right.

What makes everyone happy...

...when you've been in the car for over 60 hours in the past 2 weeks?

You stop for an ice cream cone at McDonalds!
***Happy cheers all around ***

What makes everyone unhappy?
You tell everyone that we're going to stop for an ice cream cone at McDonalds and they tell you that the machine isn't working!
Yeah, not good.

Alpaca baby

Two of the baby alpacas were born after we left, of course, but we got to see them on our drive back home.
This little guy was born the morning we arrived.

Getting its first checkup.

Waiting for the baby alpacas

Aunt Vicki and Uncle Tim have an alpaca farm.  There were 3 ready to have a baby so Karis and I went to go check out all the animals.
She likes the big white dogs, Max and Molly.

These are the younger alpacas.  No babies yet, but maybe before we leave?
Now off to find the cats.

Buckin' Shark

Have you ever heard of a buckin' shark?

Canoeing

Part of the gang heading out canoeing.  I think this was a first for most of the kids.
Photo borrowed from my cousin's blog!

Favorite sound of the day - Hearing Sharon and Joanna laughing after their boat tipped!!

Creation Museum

A lot of us took a trip down to visit the Creation Museum.

It was fun until
we all turned and saw a dinosaur coming after us!!
We survived and no one was harmed in the taking of these pictures.

Aunt Sharon & Joanna in front of the Burning Tree Mastodon display.
We saw a planetarium show which was narrated by the voice of Mr. Whitaker from Adventures in Odyssey which my kids thought was pretty cool.  We got a glimpse of how big our universe is, how small we are, and all of it was planned.

Joel & Karis checking out the dinosaur.  The little kids loved the animatronic displays of dinosaurs and scenes from the Bible.

 Caleb & Eliana

 Joanna & Caleb

Noah answering Joanna & Aunt Sharon's questions.

A model of what the inside of the ark might have looked like.

Grandfather & Karis checking out a display.

The museum has beautiful grounds to walk around.

 Lily, my cousin's daughter.

Eliana on the shaky, bouncy bridge.  All the kids enjoyed the bridge.

They had a little petting zoo and Karis went to pet the turtle.

Karis found a big rock in a pretty area and asked me to take her picture.

After a walk on the grounds and picnic lunch, we went back inside to see more dinosaurs.
Joanna and Eliana had a run in...
...and Grandfather saved the day.

The little girls really enjoyed the dinosaurs!
