Zapata Falls

Some of us went on a shorter hike one day to Zapata Falls.

The falls area is in between some tall rock formations. It was almost like entering a cave to see it.

Joanna and Caleb picking their way along the rocks. Sometimes they were a bit slippery!

Long Hike in CO

Usually there's a crew that goes on a long hike while we're on vacation. I got to join in this year since Grandma watched the younger kids for us.

Ready to head out.

The view from Music Pass.

Grandfather and Joanna.

Tweeter taking a break.

The water was cold! (It froze our feet.)

There were some pretty wildflowers up there.

This is a blue Columbine.

Joel wasn't really going to fall. It was a big drop, though.

You mean we have to go all the way back down?

At this point, there were a ton of mosquitos because we were near a lake. Joanna had everything covered up except her face.

Very pretty!

The Summit of the Sand Dunes

Here are some pictures of the crew that hiked to the top of the Sand Dunes. It's not an easy climb. Don't forget to watch the video below!

Caleb & Joel starting up.

Caleb taking a break. I was told there were quite a few breaks!

You can see Caleb & Joel on the right.

Still heading up...

Just a little tired maybe!

Another break!

That's Sharon and Austin on the right. You can kind of tell how high these dunes are with this picture.

Like a desert in the middle of paradise.

Almost to the top. Joel's excited.

Grandfather & Caleb - Good job!

Yay!!

Well, they made it to the top of the Sand Dunes. You'll have to watch the video below to see what happened at the top.

Did they make it?

Yep! We brought them home.

Playing at the Sand Dunes

A stop at the Great Sand Dunes was a lot of fun.

Some of us stayed and played at the base of the dunes, while others hiked to the top. There wasn't as much water in the creek bed as last year, but the kids still had a great time.

My cute and silly girls!

On the way home we saw a beautiful and complete rainbow. Of course, the picture isn't as pretty!
